A cap throw is one of the most basic mechanics in Super Mario Odyssey. A Cap throw is performed by pressing X/Y or shaking the controller. Cap throws are used for various actions in Super Mario Odyssey, including capturing enemies, triggering levers or scarecrows and opening doors, aswell as more advanced uses like cap dives, vaults, roll cancel bounces or cap throw clips.
By shaking the controller in a specific direction, it is possible to perform motion controlled cap throws, such as upthrows, downthrows and spinthrows.
