Version 1.0.1 is a version of the game that was released as a day-one patch, meaning it was available from the moment Super Mario Odyssey released digitally. The patch included a number of tweaks implemented as preventative measures to prevent certain types of exploits, such as removing certain sequence-breaking behavior. Because it was a day-one patch and the community had not found any glitches yet, the version 1.0.1 patch primarily contains fixes aimed at preemptively preventing unintended behavior, rather than patches to specific glitches or exploits.

Version 1.0.1 and its successor, version 1.1.0, are often collectively referred to as "version 1.1", since the only difference between them is Korean language support, although this terminology can often be slightly misleading.

Because there are no cartridges with a base version of 1.0.1, it is no longer possible to obtain a new copy of this version without custom firmware. However, cartridges can be found with a base version of the nearly identical version 1.1.0.

Changes

The following is a list of changes compared to the previous version, version 1.0.0.

Preventive changes

  • The collision properties of the invisible wall in the Cascade Kingdom that is bypassed during First Moon Skip were altered, meaning the methods of bypassing it are different on versions 1.0.1 and later when compared to version 1.0.0.
  • The Madame Broode fight in the Cascade Kingdom can no longer be triggered before collecting Our First Power Moon, making First Moon Skip no longer useful as a sequence break.
  • Falling off of the Warp Painting platform in the Luncheon Kingdom before reaching the kingdom normally using the Odyssey will cause the game to attempt to place Mario inside a bubble. This attempts to prevent Bruncheon, but if the bubble's safe spot is never set (which can be achieved by only standing on top of the painting, since the safe spot cannot be placed there), Mario cannot be placed in a bubble, allowing the kingdom to still be accessed early.
  • Three loading zones that were erroneously active in the Snow Kingdom before completing the Bound Bowl, but that cannot be accessed early without clipping out of bounds, are now disabled.

Glitches patched

  • If any story moons were skipped in the Cascade Kingdom using either First Moon Skip or Madame Broode Skip, they will now automatically be awarded to the player upon returning to the kingdom or completing the game, even if they were skipped before the game was updated to version 1.0.1.
  • Warp Paintings will now only be enabled if the story in the kingdom on the other side is progressed to the point where the opposing painting opens. This eliminates some behavior where painting portals can be entered only in one direction.
  • The Warp Painting, Checkpoint Flag and Power Moon on the faraway island in the Metro Kingdom now exist in the nighttime scenario, while they previously did not. This fixes some strange behavior that would occur when entering the painting from the Sand Kingdom before defeating Mechawiggler, in which Mario would spawn near the Odyssey instead of emerging from the painting on the island.
  • A bug is fixed where Talkatoo in the Snow Kingdom was able to suggest moons that were only available after completing the Bound Bowl, before the Bound Bowl had actually been completed.
  • Uproot hitboxes now only become active after the Uproot has fully emerged from the ground, rather than as soon as it spawns. This prevents the possibility of clipping through the floor by capturing the Uproot too early or hitting the Uproot with Cappy without knocking its pot off by hitting it on the first frame after spawning.
  • Attempting to capture an Uproot the moment it touches lava will no longer result in a softlock and will instead simply result in Mario capturing the Uproot followed by the Uproot dying and forcing Mario out.
  • Capturing a Hammer Bro or Fire Bro just as a turnip is about to collide with it no longer results in a softlock (due to the Bro dying as it is captured), but now results in the Bro clipping through the ground.
  • Throwing Cappy while underwater will now register the cap throw to Archivist Toadette's achievement counter.[1]
  • In the Deep Woods, a visual bug is fixed where going through the first pipe for the Past the Peculiar Pipes moon with the Mario amiibo effect active would cause the invincibility particle effect to briefly appear in front of the pipe Mario emerges from.[2]
  • A bug is fixed where continually crouch walking into a door immediately after respawning at it would cause it to repeatedly display the closing animation.[3]
  • When the player ground pounds into the top of the Odyssey, a fixed camera will now be used to prevent the camera from following Mario.[4]
  • The scoring function for the Cloud Kingdom version of the Picture Match minigame was changed, but the effect of the change is unknown.

Glitches introduced

  • Capture frame teleportation has become possible.
  • Coin duplication has become possible.
  • It is now possible to clip through the ground in the Cascade Kingdom near where the bridge lands after collecting Our First Power Moon, by ground pounding a certain spot before the bridge has fallen.
  • The metal crate containing a Moon Shard in the Second Courtyard of Bowser's Kingdom will no longer yield a coin if it is poked 200 times while inside a Pokio capture. It will still yield a coin if broken normally with a bomb. Because of this, version 1.0.1 or later is required to complete the game without collecting any coins.

Uses

Version 1.0.1 has identical uses to version 1.1.0, since the only difference between the two is that the latter features Korean language support. The two versions are the fastest for 3 Captures, slightly edging out version 1.0.0 since the clip through the ground near where the bridge lands in Cascade Kingdom can be used to collect Treasure of the Waterfall Basin a bit faster.
