The Nintendo Switch 2 is the successor console to the Nintendo Switch, and has full backward compatibility with games for the original Switch, including Super Mario Odyssey. When running on Switch 2, Super Mario Odyssey may exhibit various minor differences.

Differences

Playing Super Mario Odyssey on Nintendo Switch 2 results in the following differences:

  • Loading times throughout the game are reduced dramatically due to the increased processing power of the Switch 2.
  • On version 1.4.0 and higher, certain changes are implemented only on Switch 2.

The following glitches are also believed to be related to playing on the Switch 2:

  • Talking to the trumpeter in Metro Kingdom while standing near the very edge of the building may cause the game to softlock[1], rather than simply causing Mario to teleport downward during the moon cutscene.
  • On rare occasions, when traveling via the Odyssey, the game may become stuck permanently loading the next kingdom, resulting in a game softlock.[2]
  • A visual glitch has been spotted in Wooded Kingdom, where parts of the ground briefly become transparent.[3]
