A wall jump is a basic part of Mario's movement, and is initiated after a wall slide. When a wall jump occurs, Mario move away from the wall at a set speed directly away from the wall's angle.

Properties

While mostly locked into a single direction, Mario can actually slightly move left or right if the control stick is held in said direction. Wall jumps are most commonly used after a cap throw to maximize height. A wall jump will usually prevent Mario from cap bouncing afterwards, but this can be avoided by wall jumping when Mario is very close to the ground.[1]

Wall jumps can only be done to gain height if a few criteria are met:

  • Mario is not higher on a wall that has an angle less than 90 degrees from the wall he jumped from
  • The next wall is not too far away
  • The next wall is at least 90 degrees apart from the wall Mario jumped from
