Tree zipping

Tree zipping is an unpredictable glitch that can sometimes occur when Mario climbs a curved tree in the Sand Kingdom or Lost Kingdom. The glitch causes Mario to suddenly teleport in a seemingly random direction while still exhibiting the climbing animation, but often sideways or upside-down.

Properties

Tree zips most frequently occur when Mario climbs to the top of a tree, but have been known to occur in other places on the tree. After a tree zip occurs, Mario will stay in the climbing animation without falling, but often tilted in a random direction, until the jump button is pressed. Sometimes, the direction in which Mario teleports can be very high in the air or underneath the ground. There is no known consistent setup to reproduce the glitch, and most players hoping to reproduce it just repeatedly grab and climb a tree in various directions.
