Snow Moon Clip is a moon clip within Shiveria Town in the Snow Kingdom, using the Shining in the Snow in Town moon.

The clip saves time in various speedrun categories, most notably in World Peace as one possible method of skipping the four rooms containing Story Moons. The clip also saves around a second in Any% by enabling a movement shortcut.

Execution

To execute Snow Moon Clip:

  • Ground pound the spot containing the moon. Begin to position Mario slightly away from the wall, facing away from it.
  • After a brief moment, backflip toward the wall.
  • At the moment the moon becomes solid, cap throw toward the wall.
  • To land half-bounds, cap throw toward the wall again after the moon animation finishes, wait a brief moment, then ground pound. This can be chained into a roll for a fast way to reach the Wind-Chill Cavern entrance.

Speedrun usage

Any%

In Any%, Snow Moon Clip can be used to take a shortcut from the moon to the Wind-Chill Cavern entrance, saving about a second over the usual method of going through the tunnel entrance.

World Peace

Unlike in many other kingdoms, the sequence of Story Moons can be broken in the Snow Kingdom by completing The Bound Bowl Grand Prix without obtaining the other four Story Moons beforehand, which are fairly slow to collect. For World Peace, Snow Moon Clip is the fastest known method to clip out of bounds to access the racecourse early, since the route collects the Shining in the Snow in Town moon regardless. If the clip is failed, any other Snow Clip method can be used as a backup, such as Screen Clip or Downstairs Snow Clip.
