Vault

A vault is a movement technique that involves bouncing off of Cappy while Mario is on the ground. Vaults can provide lots of speed if they are chained from a ground pound roll, making them very useful for trickjumps that require horizontal distance. Although they don't provide quite as much distance as a momentum-aided triple jump, they can be performed in a tighter space, especially if an up-down vault is used.

To perform a crv

  • Throw cappy and hold him there; jump
  • Groundpound
  • Roll into cappy using the other cap throw button

Alternatively, you could spinpound to save time. If the space on a platform is limited, you can perform an upthrow, downthrow crj. Although it is only possible using joycons, it is incredibly useful. To perform a UDcrv

  • Do an upthrow
  • Groundpound jump
  • Downthrow when you bounce off cappy
  • Groundpound
  • Roll.

Crvs can be hard to learn but can easily become consistent

Implementations

As mentioned earlier, crvs are invaluable in trickjumping but they can also be very useful in many low% tricks, skips and sequence breaks. Their usage in normal speedrunning is more limited though.
