A roll cancel clip (often abbreviated as RCC) is a type of out-of-bounds clip that involves performing an instant roll cancel against specific walls. The roll cancel clip is one of the most prominent forms of clipping in Super Mario Odyssey, with many dozens of known locations to execute the trick.

Because roll cancel clips utilize an instant roll cancel, they require inputs in a very quick succession, and often a precise positioning of Mario in order to clip through. Some roll cancel clips may have slightly different timings for the roll cancel inputs than others. Some of the most notable instances of this type of clip include Inverted Pyramid Clip, Snow Clip (Upstairs and Downstairs) and numerous clips through doors to buildings in the Metro Kingdom (mainly used for Luigi's Balloon World).

Execution

To execute a roll cancel clip:

  • Position Mario directly against the wall in the correct spot (this varies between clips);
  • Execute a ground pound (jump + crouch);
  • After the ground pound lands, initiate a boosted roll by pressing X or Y;
  • Immediately cancel the roll by pressing Y+B or X+A (utilizing the extra button that is not already being held down from step 3).
