VR Mode is a feature introduced in the 1.3.0 update that allows players to experience new challenges in previously-explored areas of the game through a virtual reality third-person perspective. This mode can be accessed using the Toy-Con VR Goggles, included in the Nintendo Labo VR Kit, or without them, provided the console is in undocked mode. When using the Toy-Con VR Goggles, the screen is split into two apertures—one for each eye—creating a 3D effect. VR Mode is available via the "Playing in VR" option on the title screen or pause menu.

In VR Mode, the player controls Mario's movements with the controller, while moving the console rotates the camera around a stationary point.

Main Missions

There are three main missions available in VR Mode, taking place in the Cap Kingdom, Seaside Kingdom, and Luncheon Kingdom, respectively. These missions are unlocked by achieving Peace in their corresponding kingdom within the current save file. Each mission involves finding three instruments and returning them to their owners, with an additional bonus objective of collecting 100 coins. The mission menu will display a checkmark if all three musicians are found, which is replaced with a star if 100 coins are also collected. The missions can be completed in any order.

Concert Hall

The Concert Hall mission is unlocked after achieving World Peace and earning a star in the previous three missions. This mission occurs inside the Concert Hall in Metro Kingdom, where Pauline and various musicians from the earlier missions perform "Jump Up, Super Star!" to a crowded audience. There are no objectives in this mission, though Mario can activate and collect two Pixel Art characters on the walls. After the performance, a "CONGRATULATIONS!" message appears on the screen before it fades to black.

Theater

The Theater option allows players to rewatch the opening and ending cutscenes in VR Mode after they have been encountered in the current save file. While the camera cannot be moved, the cutscenes can be viewed in 3D if the Toy-Con VR Goggles are used.
