Overview

A cappy roll vault (crv) (or cappy roll jump (crj) ) is a movement technique used primarily in trickjumping. Cappy roll vaults are useful due to the high amount of horizontal distance they give. Unlike full speed triple jumps, they can be performed in a small space and where roll cancel vectors lose lots of height very quickly, cappy roll vaults lose height relatively slowly.

Performance

To perform a crv

  • Throw cappy and hold him there; jump
  • Groundpound
  • Roll into cappy using the other cap throw button

. Alternatively, you could spinpound to save time. If the space on a platform is limited, you can perform an upthrow, downthrow crj. Although it is only possible using joycons, it is incredibly useful. To perform a UDcrv

  • do an upthrow
  • groundpound jump
  • downthrow when you bounce off cappy
  • groundpound
  • roll.

Crvs can be hard to learn but can easily become consistent

Implementations

As mentioned earlier, crvs are invaluable in trickjumping but they can also be very useful in many low% tricks, skips and sequence breaks. Their usage in normal speedrunning is more limited though.
