Fast Uproot (often nicknamed Fast Nut Boi or Speedy Nut Boi) refers to two properties that can be acquired while in an Uproot capture to increase movement speed. One increases the speed of jumps, while the other eliminates the slowdown that normally occurs after landing from a jump. In speedruns, these properties are primarily used to move faster while fighting Torkdrift, but can be utilized in many places where Uproot movement is required.
Properties
There are two properties that can be acquired (and consequently lost) while in an Uproot capture.
Fast launches
The fast launch buff can be acquired by jumping off of specific surfaces, and it increases the speed boost given when jumping. Little is known about exactly what surfaces trigger the buff, but it seems to be most frequent when moving downhill or on a concave surface. In the context of the Torkdrift fight, it can be gained by traveling over the Uproot's spawn pad and jumping just as the Uproot is about to walk off of the pad.
The buff is lost if the player ever stops moving while the Uproot's legs are stretched. While its legs are unstretched, the state of the buff will not be affected by whether or not the player is moving.
Seemingly, the buff can also be lost by jumping off of certain surfaces. Again, little is known about what sort of surfaces this includes, but it seems most common on uphill or convex surfaces. This never occurs on flat ground.
Fast landings
The fast landing buff essentially works inversely to the fast launch buff. It is acquired by landing on specific surfaces, and disables the short stun animation that normally slows the Uproot down after landing from a jump. Similarly to fast launches, it is not known exactly what sort of surfaces trigger the buff, but it seems most common when landing on a downhill or concave surface. During the Torkdrift fight, it is enabled by traveling over the Uproot's spawn pad and timing a jump so that the Uproot lands exactly on the far edge of the pad.
The fast landing buff can also be acquired by capturing an Uproot at just the right moment after it spawns. It is not known exactly why this occurs, although it is theorized that it may be because the Uproot is slightly in the air as it is captured, and it lands on the pad in a way that triggers the buff.
This buff is lost if the player ever stops moving while the Uproot is on the ground with its legs unstretched. While its legs are stretched, or while the Uproot is airborne, the state of the buff will not be affected based on the player's motion.
This buff also seems to be disabled by landing on certain surfaces. Again, it seems most common when landing on uphill or convex surfaces, and never occurs on flat ground.
There is one more way to lose this buff for which the fast launch buff doesn't seem to have a counterpart. If the Uproot falls off a ledge, the fast landing buff will be lost upon hitting the ground, unless the player performs a jump as the Uproot in midair before touching the ground.
