#REDIRECT Cap return jump#Instant cap return jumps
A buffered roll cancel is a roll cancel that involves roll cancelling near a wall or a ledge of ground to get a cappy return jump. This movement technique is used in some portions of Any%, for example Wooded Kingdom when roll cancelling near the railing to the left and get to the nut after the tank moon.(out of bounds from Nut Clip) These can be used to gain height and get to where Mario needs to go.

Execution
In order to perform a buffered roll cancel, Mario must spinpound and start rolling anywhere. If anything is near Mario to his left or right, you may want to get a little close to it and then roll cancel. Or you can have Mario a bit far away from where you roll cancel. Then you want to keep the control stick forward in some kind of way and get a cappy return jump. If done correctly Mario should be pushed a little back or keep traveling in the same direction depending on where you need to go.

Extras
Buffered roll cancels can also be performed with motion control roll cancels along with the upthrow and slanted cap throw. The inputs for these buffered motion control roll cancels are hard to explain but I will only go over the tips of how to do them. The buffered upthrow roll cancel can be performed by shaking your Pro Controller / Joy-Cons upward and the inputs would be pressing A or the B button (twice quickly) and the analog stick in some kind of right and upwards to perform it. The inputs are janky with the buffered upthrow roll cancel because you need to delay the motion control input before pressing A or B in that case for it to work. The slanted buffered roll cancel is the same to a normal buffered roll cancel but is performed by shaking the Pro Controller downwards and the inputs with pressing the A or B button and the analog stick is the same right and upwards motion.
